Learn About The Coffee Cultivation Process

Indigenous Culture

This tour is centred around coffee, but you will also get the chance to learn about the indigenous Panche people who inhabited the area outside of Bogota. About 30,000 Panche lived in what are now the departments of Cundinamarca and Tolima around the time of the Spanish conquest. They were strong warriors and often fought with a neighbouring group called the Muisca. Your tour guide will explain more about Colombia’s indigenous tribes and how they fit into today’s society.

Detailed Itinerary
Departure Time: 6:30 am
We will begin the day tour by heading to a small town called Tibacuy, located about 2 hours outside of Bogota. On the way to Tibacuy we will stop to enjoy a delicious traditional Colombian breakfast. At the first farm, we will learn about the indigenous community that inhabited this area as well as the cultivation process. We will learn how to plant coffee trees, interact with the farmers and eat delicious snacks.
A 20-minute hike will take you to the next farm, where we will show you the coffee pulping and drying process. Afterwards, we will eat a traditional Colombian lunch. At the next farm, you will learn how to select the best coffee beans (an important step in the cultivation process) and drink various coffee samples. The last coffee farm on the tour features an old colonial house where you will get to know more of Colombia’s traditions and cultures. Don’t miss this chance to see an authentic glimpse of this country and learn about one of Colombia’s most important exports!
