We start the food tour by taking you to Plaza de Paloquemao – one of Bogota, Colombia’s oldest and largest traditional markets. Let the exotic smells, sights and sounds wash over you as a knowledgeable guide leads you to the best Colombian food in the market.

Then it’s off to a cooking school! You’ll take part in a hands-on cooking class where you’ll learn to make a traditional Colombian dish. After eating your culinary masterpiece, you’ll head to Bogota’s dessert district to end this day tour with mouthwatering Colombian desserts.This cooking and food tour in Bogota is the perfect option for foodies and cooking enthusiasts who want to learn more about gastronomy while visiting Colombia!

Walk through Paloquemao Market

Paloquemao Market is one of the most traditional and oldest markets in Bogotá. It was founded in 1946, and moved to its current location in 1967. In Paloquemao, you can find everything from fruits and vegetables to fresh flowers and freshly cut meats. You will most assuredly be shocked and awed at the diversity of exotic fruits and vegetables available in this market.

The selection of fresh flowers is no less amazing. Colombia produces an incredible amount of beautiful and diverse flowers, and Paloquemao may just be the best place to see this variety of Colombian flora.

Cooking Class

You will visit a local cooking school, where you will prepare a traditional Colombian dish under the guidance of a skilled chef. While cooking, you will learn more about Colombian food and which dishes are famous in each region of Colombia.

Once your food is ready, we will sit down together to enjoy a delicious Colombian lunch complete with fresh fruit juice.

Note: If you have any special dietary requirement or are interested in learning how to cook a particular Colombian dish, please let us know. We will adjust the menu accordingly!

Dessert Time

To finish the tour with something sweet and also to show another area of Bogota, we will take you to Bogota’s dessert district. This is where families gather on weekends to partake in something sweet. You’ll get the chance to choose from a variety of traditional Colombian desserts such as tres leches cake, flan, milhojas and more.

 

 

 

What to Expect

Detailed Itinerary

Departure Time: 9 am

We will pick you up from your hotel and then go straight to the market at Plaza de Paloquemao. We walk around the market and search for the best places to buy all the ingredients for lunch. You will have to use your best bargaining skills to get the best price, just like a real Bogotano! This market is the perfect environment to interact with the locals and learn about day-to-day life in Bogota. And, we won't leave the market without trying a delicious freshly made fruit juice!

Once we have everything we need, we will drive to the cooking school to prepare our lunch. We will prepare a traditional Colombian dish with the guidance of a skilled chef. Once the food is cooked, we will sit down to enjoy a delicious Colombian lunch!

Our last stop will be to Bogota’s dessert district, where shops full of Colombian treats lined the road. You’ll get the chance to choose from a variety of traditional Colombian desserts such as tres leches cake, flan, obleas – a dulce de leche-type spread sandwiched between two big wafers and more. After our culinary and cultural experience, we will drop you at your hotel.

Here are some things to remember before taking this food tour in Bogota:

  • Don’t eat breakfast or eat something light, you will be eating plenty of food during this 5-hour tour.
  • Wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be walking a lot at the market, then standing a lot while cooking.
  • Don’t worry about writing down all the ingredients used at the cooking school, you will receive a recipe for the traditional meal by email after the tour.
  • Please let us know, if you have any dietary requirement or if you wish to cook somehting in particular and we will update the cooking class accordingly
