During this Colombia tour, you will travel from the vibrant capital city of Bogota to the Caribbean Coast. This journey to the romantic Cartagena and Tayrona National Natural Park in the Caribbean will give you the opportunity to experience the fantastic city of the "eternal spring" Medellin, the colonial town of Villa de Leyva and the spectacular mountains and valleys of Colombia's coffee region.

Historic centre of Bogota: Bogota is the capital city of Colombia. Bogota's famous colonial neighbourhood of La Candelaria contains most of the historic sites, museums, ancient churches and central government buildings. Practically every street corner in La Candelaria marks some important event in Colombian history and most buildings retain their colonial architecture and charm.
Villa de Leyva: It is definitely the most touristy and popular town in Boyaca. This colonial village frozen in time will make you feel like you have been transported back to the colonial times. Its main plaza is surrounded by magnificent colonial structures and a beautiful parish church, the area of the plaza is about 14000 square meters and is considered the largest plaza in Colombia
Colombia's Coffee region: This fertile region, also called the Coffee Triangle, is located in the heart of the Andes where the majority of the famous Colombian coffee is produced. This region offers numerous alternatives for rural tourism, including visits to coffee farms to learn about the coffee production process.
Medellin: Medellin is the second largest city in Colombia and a world-class modern city with stunning architecture. Medellin delights visitors with its sophistication and wealth attractions. It is called the city of eternal spring due to its perfect combination of warm days and cool nights. Surrounded by flower farms, Medellin is one of the main flower producing centres in Colombia.
Guatape and El Peñol: The colourful town of Guatape is located about 2.5 hours outside Medellin. It is located in a beautiful zone wedged between a government created reservoir and a colossal stone, called El Peñol. El penol is a 200m high granite monolith set near the reservoir. A brick-and-mortar staircase of 649 steps rises up through a brad fissure in the side of the rock. From the top of there are magnificent views of the region.
Cartagena: Cartagena de Indias is one of the most fascinating, romantic and beautiful colonial cities in Latin America. Located on the Caribbean coast, this UNESCO World Heritage site is full of history, colourful streets and great people, making it a fairy tale city of romance.
Tayrona Park: The Tayrona National Natural Park is one of the most popular natural parks in Colombia for its unspoiled natural beauty and biodiversity. The park contains some of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia, some bordered by coral reefs, providing good snorkelling and scuba-diving opportunities.

Day 1: Join tour in Bogota - Airport transfer
Arrive at any time. We will pick you up at the airport and drive you to your Hotel in Bogota.
Day 2: Historic City Tour in Bogota
Today, we will have a day tour to some of the most iconic places in Bogota's historic centre. We will have the chance to admire the world's largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold at the Gold Museum, and check the artistic work of Fernando Botero, Colombia's most famous painter and sculptor at the Museo Botero. We will glimpse the diversity of architectural styles on display at the historic neighbourhood of La Candelaria and we will capture spectacular panoramic views of the city from the top of Cerro de Monserrate.
Day 3: Travel to Villa de Leyva via Zipaquira
We will pick you up from your hotel to start our journey towards Villa de Leyva. Along the way, we will visit the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira and Raquira.
The Salt Cathedral is located 50km north of Bogota and was built within the tunnels of a salt mine. The cathedral is situated 180 meters underground and has three sections representing the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ. It is an amazing work of architecture and engineering.
After visiting the Cathedral ,we will continue our trip towards Raquira, a small colourful village with brightly painted facades and a jumble of crafts shops. This beautiful village is famous for its pottery and handicrafts made of clay. An interesting spot for shopping. We will have lunch on the way to Raquira.
Leaving Raquira, we will continue our journey to Villa de Leyva. Once we arrive there, we will check in at the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure for your individual exploration of the town that will transport you back to Spanish colonial time.
Day 4: AM: Villa de Leyva PM: Travel to Colombia's Coffee Region
We will have the morning to carry on exploring the town. We will visit the Fossil Museum to see the petrified skeleton of a large marine reptile that inhabited this region 120 million years ago, followed by a visit to the Convento Santo Ecce Homo, founded by the Dominican fathers in 1620. This is a spectacular stone-and-adobe construction with a lovely courtyard and floors paved with stones quarried in the region, containing ammonites and fossils, including petrified corn and flowers.
Then, we will start our journey back to Bogota. On our way to Bogota, we will stop at Puente the Boyaca, which is a very important historical place where the most important battle of the Colombian war of independence took place. In the evening, you will take a flight to Colombia's Coffee Region
Day 5: AM: At leisure PM: Visit Coffee Plantation
After lunch, we will visit a coffee plantation to learn all the details of each step from planting the coffee beans all the way through the picking and roasting process. We will learn how to select and pick only the ripe coffee cherries and also how to taste and evaluate the coffee's quality, just like an expert coffee taster.
Day 6: Trip to Valle de Cocora and Salento
Today we will take a day trip to the Valle de Cocora (Valley of Cocora) Natural Park and Salento. The cloud forest at Valle de Cocora is a prime example of the amazing diversity of fauna and flora characteristic of Colombia's coffee region. While trekking across the valley, surrounded by the famous and unique palmas de cera (wax palms), we will hear stories about this amazing place and its meaning for the native tribes that inhabited the area before the Europeans came to America. We will have lunch at the park rangers' base before continuing our trip to Salento.
Salento is a traditional and picturesque paisa town, where the colours of the houses and the colonial architecture blend themselves with the surrounding natural beauty of the region and the smell of freshly roasted coffee. Salento is a perfect place for a gentle stroll or for enjoying a delicious cup of Colombian coffee. Late in the afternoon we will go back to the hacienda.
Day 7: AM: Travel to Medellin from the Coffee Region PM: Medellin City Tour
After breakfast, we will start our journey towards Medellin. It will take 5-6 hours depending on the traffic. Once, you arrive to Medellin, we will go to the hotel to check in. Then you will have time for lunch before the city tour in the afternoon.
During the city tour, we will visit the most iconic areas of the city including: Plaza de Botero, El Pueblito Paisa and Parque LLeras. The Plaza de Botero is a medium sized plaza full of sculptures created by the famous Colombian sculptor, Fernando Botero (originally from Medellin). He is famous for his style of painting, which makes everything look "chubby". The Parque Lleras and El Pueblito Paisa are two of Medellin's must-see quarters. The Pueblito Paisa, a small replica of a typical Antioquia township, located on top of the 80m-hill "Cerro Nutibara" is the perfect place to get a great panoramic view of the city, while the Parque Lleras is one of the most popular areas for entertainment and nightlife in Medellin.
Day 8: At leisure in Medellin
Today, you can carry on exploring other parts of the city on your own. We will be happy to assist you and provide you options if required.
Optional Tour: Day trip to Santa Elena and Parque Arvi
During this tour, we will visit the small town of Santa Elena, located approximately 10 miles east from Medellin's city centre. Santa Elena is located in the surrounding mountains of Medellin, where the weather and the soil are perfect to the grow of an extensive variety of flowers. Santa Elena is the birthplace of the ornate flower arrangements called silletas that are the cornerstone of the Flower Festival held every year in August.
We will also visit one of the local farms to learn about the flowers cultivation process, as well as the design and preparation of the popular silletas for the Flowers festival. After the visit to the farm, we will visit the Arvi Park, a natural reserve where we will see some of typical species of fauna and flora from this area of the country.
Day 9: Day trip to El Peñol and Guatape - Travel to Cartagena
Today we will go to Guatape, a small town located about 2.5 hours by car from Medellin in a beautiful zone wedged between a reservoir and a colossal stone called EL Peñol. Upon arrival to the town of Guatape, you will be surrounded by the most colourful houses, each one intricately decorated with zocalos, traditionally painted carvings, along the lower parts of the main entrances. After visiting the town, we will go to El Peñol from where you will get a stunning view of the region. We will also take a boat ride around the reservoir.
Late in the afternoon, we will go to the airport for your flight to Cartagena. On arrival to Cartagena, we will pick you up at the airport to take you to the hotel.
Day 10 AM: City Tour Cartagena PM: At leisure
After breakfast, we will start our city tour covering the Castillo de San Felipe and the old city surrounded by its impressive walls, built during the Spanish rule to protect the city against enemies and looters.
The castle of San Felipe is the greatest and strongest fortress ever built by the Spaniards in any of their colonies. It was built on top of the San Lazaro hill and defended the city from many attacks including a British siege in 1741. The old city is the historic heart and soul of Cartagena. We will walk around its cobbled streets visiting or passing by the main historical sites.
The afternoon is at leisure, you will have time to relax at the hotel or carry on exploring the old city, admire its architecture and immerse into its romantic atmosphere.
Day 11: At leisure in Cartagena
Today, you can explore other parts of the old city, hit the beach or perhaps do a bit of shopping. We will be happy to assist you and provide you options if required.
Optional Tour: Day trip to Islas del Rosario
During this day trip you will be travelling to the spectacular Islas del Rosario National Natural Park. These islands are located 45 minutes by boat from Cartagena. At Islas del Rosario, you will have the opportunity spend the day relaxing by the beautiful sandy beaches or swimming in the crystalline turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. We will start our journey back to Cartagena around 3pm.
Day 12: AM: Travel to Santa Marta PM: At leisure
After lunch, we will start our trip towards Santa Marta. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful landscape of the Caribbean region. The total journey to Santa Marta is approximately 3.5 - 4 hours.
Day 13: Day trip to Tayrona Park
Today we will spend the day at Tayrona National Natural Park, where we will see some of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia. We will hiking across the forest to visit various beaches in the Park where you swim or just relax at the beach.
Day 14: AM: Trip to Taironaka PM: Flight to Bogota
In the morning, we will go to Taironaka, a natural reserve located on the foothill of the Sierra Nevada, and home of a native Kogui community. We will learn about the Kogui culture and the Tayrona civilisation, we will visit some remains of the terraces and aqueduct structures built by the Tayrona people during pre-Columbian times. We will go back to the hotel for lunch and check out.
After lunch and check out, we will go to the airport for your flight back to Bogota.
Day 15: End of the tour in Bogota
The tour ends today, at the time required we will pick you up at the hotel for a transfer to the airport.

Day trip to Islas del Rosario: This archipelago, located about 35km Southwest of Cartagena, consists of about 27 small islands surrounded by coral reefs. The whole area has been declared natural park in order to preserve and protect the coral reefs and associated ecosystems. If you choose to take the optional day trip, we will pick you up at the hotel to go to the pier from where you will take a boat to Islas del Rosario. We will travel to one of the Islands where you will be able to spend the day enjoying the beautiful sandy beaches and the crystalline turquoise waters. There will be time to walk around the Island, relax at the beach or practice some aquatic sports like snorkel or scuba diving, before returning to Cartagena in the afternoon.
